I might have been disappointed in not winning the Unity Awards, but this time our competition was more than worthy. The winner- "The Rift: U.R.I.D.I.S." is an Oculus Rift futuristic flight-simulator dogfighting game that looks absolutely incredible.
I attended the Unity Awards with Chris and AJ, who both pointed out the obvious art talent that all of the other nominees clearly had on their game. Damean is a miracle worker and a really fantastic artist, but in the end he's only one guy, and that showed through on our project. It's not even all about the workload, really. Having an additional person to bounce creative ideas off of is really important, and Damean never really had that high-caliber artistic feedback that he needed. You need somebody sitting next to you to give constant, high-quality feedback about what you're doing, and its something that was just impossible to get to Damean.
Despite this, I'm still proud of what we were able to accomplish. I really look forward to the Utah Game Wars tomorrow, and I'd really like to win. While being nominated for a ton of stuff is really awesome, I would love to win an award for the game.
